Palau Delegation Receives Warm Welcome In Guam

A total of 139-member Palau delegation arrived in Guam on Thursday to a warm welcome from Guam government officials, ahead of the May 22 opening of the 12th Festival of the Pacific Arts.

After clearing customs, the delegation members were greeted by the officers of the Guam Police Department with leis adorned with seashells and a sound of “alii”.

Guam Police Department (GPD) is Palau’s partner agency. The partnering of delegations with a government agencies is a creation of the Guam FestPac organizing committee, which further develops connection between Guam and its Pacific neighbors.

GPD Captain Kelly Santos in her remarks expressed the longstanding admiration and friendship they’ve had with Palau.

Also welcoming Palau’s artist and artisans were representative from Guam governor’s office, deputy director of public works, and an airport senior official.

Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs Baklai Temengil said they didn’t expect the welcoming ceremony.

“I sense that Palau is a good friend of Guam,” Minister Temengil said.

“We felt very welcome at the airport and the reception accorded us at George Washington High School,” the minister added.
