The public has been advised not to swim or fish in certain areas around Malakal Island in Koror after raw sewage discharge into surrounding waters.
Wastewaters are being discharged into waters by CIP Office and Koror State Rangers Office in Malakal.
PPUC in a public announcement said that a malfunction at a sewer pump station in Malakal led to the discharge of raw sewage.

Crew from wastewater operations are working to repair the pump.
“PPUC-WWO (water and wastewater operations) are currently trying to make repairs and the public is advised keep out of the waters near the listed areas in the announcement,” PPUC Public Information Officer Johnny Kintaro said in an email to the media yesterday.
As a precaution, Koror State government has posted warning signs advising the public not to participate in any water activities at the popular Long Island Park.
