New Palau Stamps Commemorate Youth In Sports And Culture
Palau Postal Service unveiled two new commemorative stamps showcasing Palau’s youth in sports and culture. The new stamps' release was held on President Remengesau’s first press conference for this year on Jan.4
Palau’s top sports athletes in the Rio Olympics and traditional dancers at the Pacific Festival of Arts in Guam were featured separately in these collector’s item postal stamps.
The stamps sheetlets contained 11 individual stamps with 50 cents and one dollar value. It marked a first time that a stamp issued represents a profile of a Palauan youth.
Post master general Timothy Sinsak and Minister Baklai Temengil-Chilton unveiled each new stamp separately with two Palau Olympians – Sprinter Rodman Teltull and Canoeist Marina Toribiong; and the other with two Festival of Arts traditional dancers – Uroi Salii and Jazzman Isaac.
The stamps are to mark the implementation phase of the Youth Policy developed last year for year 2017-2022.
“The new stamps also mark the beginning of the implementation of the Youth Policy developed last year, which was designated as the year of the youth,” Minister Chilton said.
President Remengesau in his remarks during the unveiling said that the stamp is also a way for the country to document and preserve its history.
“It is another way to record our history,” Remengesau said.
“Long after we’re gone, the stamps will document an event in year 2016 future generations,” Remengesau added.
