Micronesian Islands Forum Preparatory Meetings Kicks Off

Tamuning, Guam- Government officials from the region are in Guam in preparation for the Micronesian Islands Forum meeting which is slated to start on May 1, 2017. Guam is the host this year with Gov. Eddie Baza Calvo chairing the summit of the Micronesian chief executives.

The summit is an annual gathering of the six governors and three presidents of Micronesia – Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia and its states of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap.

The preparatory meetings kicked-off today and will continue tomorrow with reports and recommendations from regional committees on a number of issues of interest in the region and directed action in their respective jurisdictions.

Issues discussed in the pre-summit stage are Health, Energy, Micronesian Challenge, Regional Invasive Species Council, Pacific Islands Regional Recycling Initiative, and Workforce Development Council.

The respective regional committees are holding their own meetings in separate venues around the island.
